Course Description

This course is dedicated to reinforce areas in the elementary school grades 3 – 5 in the subjects of Reading, Writing and Math.  Students will improve reading, writing and math application through inquiry based learning. Reader’s workshop and writer’s workshop will be implemented to teach at the student’s current level of instruction in reading and writing. This course will also help students to develop math ideas and build confidence in math reasoning. In addition, this course is also meant to improve students’ organizational skills as a bridge into middle school.

1st and 2nd Grade

Course Description

Summer Bridge is a class intended for children that have completed first or second grade. To support with the transition from one grade to another, a review of the basics for each grade and an introduction to new information is part of the course.

Reading: basic strategies to learn to decode unknown words; increase reading fluency and comprehension. Independent reading will be implemented to complete the summer reading log.

Writing: daily writing using graphic organizers to develop stories with details and organization.

Math: study numbers up to 1000, practice adding and subtracting with and without regrouping; learn number words for big numbers, order numbers, complete number patterns; introduction to multiplication for the older students.
